Local Women’s Anita McGurgan returns to the place of her studies on the North Coast and checks out the stunning, one-stop-resort for the perfect staycation.

As a former graduate of University of Ulster Coleraine, the North Coast and in particular Portrush will always hold a very special place in my heart.

With its endless places of natural beauty to visit as well as stellar restaurants and vibrant nightlife, Portrush is the jewel in Northern Ireland’s vacation crown.

As my partner Matt and I approached Portrush we could see and feel excitement with everyone around us; the restaurants and bars were busting with frequenters, and it wasn’t until I saw the impressive grandstands and North West 200 signage everywhere that I realised that NW200 preparations were well underway. It is clear that this is a huge event for Portrush with curbs and roads being painted by hand, and the excitement around the town really was palpable and almost infectious.

Situated less than a five-minute drive from Portrush, we approached Corrstown Village, OHSO Stays. It was so unassuming; as we turned left off a standard normal Northern Irish rural road, we were transported to idyllic resort. Its sandy coloured entrance and freshly trimmed grass were so eye catching and we soon realised why this new luxury retreat is so widely acclaimed. With spacious on-site parking, it’s the perfect place for stayaways with kids or with anyone with limited walking capacity.

We were sent our code instructions that morning to receive our key for our stay (even the technology with retrieving the key was impressive!). The properties are steeped in history with their 1800 historical structures adding a modern twist and new life to previous derelict buildings. What I loved most about Corrstown Village was that it felt like home. The luxury, quality and attention to detail was second to none, and as soon as we arrived, I felt at home.

I adored the naming of the resort’s individual properties such as The Barn, The Byre and the Stables. Having grown up on a farm in Co Armagh, there was just a “home away from home” feel. We were lucky enough to have stayed at The Stables 2, and while the beautiful old-meets-new concept on the exterior of the building was stunning, the interior was modern and luxurious – a clever combination of old and new!

From its furnishings, WIFI, and luxurious bedding, inside was so beautiful, hosting two bathrooms with rainfall showers as well as a fully equipped modern kitchen (including dishwasher, because le’ts be honest, who wants to do dishes when they are on holiday). The resort is self-catering and fully equipped for long or short stays, and its amenities really are amazing. These include a private eight-seater hot tub with over 50 massage jets, which I can also reconfirm are incredible. Each property includes the softest OHSO Stays’ robes and slippers, making your stay even more luxurious. We decided to enjoy the hot tub in the evening time, and it was so peaceful making the most of the peace and relaxation under the moon and stars! So, if you’re thinking of a romantic getaway, this one would definitely tick those boxes!

Another stunning element of the property was its modern fire-pit enclosed in a matte black encasing with glass surround; perfect for day or night time drinks and chats! The property is also fitted with all the technology you could want, including Smart TVs, Wifi, dishwasher, washing machine and much more! The Stables 2 hosts two upstairs bedrooms; the first room has a really fun feature piece luxury bunk bed with double bed underneath, this would be perfect for kids or even the kids at heart, with an upstairs birdseye view window of the courtyard.

The décor is stunning and modern featuring dark copper tones and statement pieces of art everywhere! Its high roof and ceiling structure means that light radiates through the property making its interior colours pop as soon as you enter.

The master bedroom was where my partner and I slept. This was so comfortable, stylish, and cosy! It was fitted with an ensuite and plenty of storage to facilitate any length of stay and honestly, I slept so well, after a very relaxing evening in the hot tub.

This is a one-stop-resort for staycations sprinkled with sophisticated luxury, so why not transport yourself to a home away from home with Corrstown Village, OHSO Stays. We most certainly will be back!
