Spoilt Rotten with Style

By Victoria McDowell – Owner of Spoilt Rotten Boutique, Markethill

From selling her car to fund a dream, to building a thriving boutique that caters for women of all ages, Victoria McDowell of Spoilt Rotten shares the story behind her business and her passion for fashion that works for real women.

A Dream Turned Reality

“I grew up in a hardworking family where nothing was handed to me. By junior high I was juggling multiple jobs – babysitting, waitressing, shop work – and I always dreamed of having my own business.

In 2011, I sold my car and started Spoilt Rotten with very little. I still remember the excitement of every sale that first night. That buzz of helping women leave with a feel-good vibe is what keeps me going.”

Style That Works for Real Women

Victoria’s aim has always been to create clothing that’s both current and comfortable.

“I’m obsessed with fabrics and how things feel, so my mission is to provide easy-to-wear, affordable fashion that doesn’t date. I want women to pull something from their wardrobe in five years’ time and still love it. When people feel good in their clothes, they share that joy with others.”

Customers of Every Age

Spoilt Rotten caters for women from their teens right through to their 80s.

“We stock sizes 8 to 24, and I always think of real women when buying. That means short, tall, busty, curvy, mums who want to cover tummies or arms, women post-surgery, or older customers who want to feel stylish and comfortable. I’ve even had three generations shop with me for wedding outfits on the same day – and that makes me so proud.”

Honesty, Trust, and Service

Customer service has always been at the heart of Spoilt Rotten.

“I love helping people and I know I’m in the right job when strangers leave as friends. If something doesn’t suit, we’ll say so – honesty builds trust, and that’s why customers come back.”

Moving to Markethill

In 2020, Spoilt Rotten relocated from Fivemiletown to Market Hill – a move that proved transformative.

“Corragham was wonderful and will always have my heart, but moving to Market Hill has been such a blessing. It’s a beautiful village with great independent shops and a strong community spirit. Since moving, the business has flourished.”

Balancing Business and Family

Life is busy for Victoria, who juggles her boutique alongside raising four children.

“It can be overwhelming, but I’m lucky to have great staff. Sometimes I even bring my girls into work with me – I don’t want to miss them growing up. Balancing work and family isn’t always easy, but I count my blessings every day.”

What Makes Spoilt Rotten Different?

“It’s the atmosphere. Spoilt Rotten is welcoming and friendly, with no pressure. We’re not about pushy sales or over-the-top prices. It’s about style, choice, and care. I want every woman to leave saying, ‘I’ll definitely come back here.’ That’s the best compliment.”

Looking Ahead

Victoria has big plans for the future.

“My aim is to grow the online side of the business. I’m not very tech-savvy, but I’d love to bring someone on board to manage e-commerce, social media, and photos so I can focus on buying and looking after customers in store. That’s the next step for us.”
