Med in Belfast

Paula Gracey at the party as family-run 2Taps restaurant celebrates its 20th anniversary with a new chef and menu twist.

One of Belfast’s favourite restaurants recently celebrated its 20th anniversary and that is no mean feat considering the current economic climate, Covid and changing food fads and fashions.

2Taps, a Cathedral Quarter original on Waring Street, has stood the test of time and for good reason.

You always know you are going to have a good time with great food and relaxing atmosphere.

Known for its relaxed Mediterranean-inspired vibe, serving quality tapas-style small plates in a fun atmosphere, 2Taps has never stood still.

And, with perfect timing, the arrival of a new chef, Adam Sarhan, has seen them celebrate that anniversary with a new-look menu.

I have been a regular customer since the start, back in the day when Taps arrived on the Lisburn Road and then 2Taps in its current location.

So many birthdays, nights out and fun times have been enjoyed there. Cozy winter inside nights watching the rain or balmy summer nights outside at 2Taps just works!

Hubby and I went to 2Taps for our first meal out as a married couple the day after we married in December 2008 so it will always hold a very special place in our hearts.

We also love Spanish food… having a little casa on the Costa, we enjoy the local food and we have always said you will not get better paella and tapas outside Spain than at 2Taps.

We were delighted to be invited along to sample their new menu recently during a fantastic evening hosted by brother and sister owners Jaron and Victoria O’Neill Watson with delicious cocktails, fantastic food and great music.

My choice of tapas always has to include the fantastic bread selection – warm, soft and moreish which is so easy to mop up the juices from my favourite Gambas Pil Pil.

He went for the chicken wings (his all-time favourite) and a new Manchego cheese, followed by a portion of their delicious glutenware paella, washed down with a glass of the 2Taps red Sangria before we each sampled one of the new cocktails.

Perfectly timed between my red and his Spritz – both delicious and refreshing.

There are plenty more to try so will be making a return visit very soon.
