Ladybird Tea Break Chats — Finding Confidence in Childcare

Ladybird Lane shares her honest take on returning to work and how the right nursery can feel like an extended family.
As parents, we can easily get caught up in asking ourselves, “Am I doing the best for my child?” Well, from a group of mums with over five years of parenting ups and downs — and more than a decade of professional childcare experience — we can confirm that no one really knows it all.
One of the hardest things to imagine as a working parent is what life will look like when the dreaded return to work comes knocking. It can feel impossible to picture leaving your little bundle in someone else’s arms. But I want to offer a bit of reassurance: choosing a home-from-home nursery environment can bring so many benefits for both your child and your family.
It should feel like leaving your child with extended family. We believe that a strong relationship between carers and parents is invaluable. At Ladybird Lane, we make sure every family who walks through our doors has a close, personal relationship with our staff.
Our team is made up of fully trained and qualified professionals — and many of us also bring first-hand experience as parents, aunties, uncles and friends. That mix of expertise and empathy shapes everything we do.
What to look for
We feel a nursery should always be built around a “home-from-home” approach — a place where love, interaction and fun come naturally. Of course, learning and development are vital, but we believe these flourish best when children are happy, stimulated and having fun.
As working parents, we all feel the constant tug between wanting our children to thrive and keeping our own careers on track. Think of your nursery choice as a safe space where your child can explore, create and express themselves freely — while leaving the weeping fingerprints and felt-tip stains to the professionals.
What matters to us
Firstly, we’ve all been there. We totally understand the heartache, separation anxiety and undeniable “mum guilt” that can come with placing your child in the care of others. But honestly, the benefits completely outweigh the downsides.
When you find the right nursery, it’s in the strawberry mousse messy play, the floor painting, and the brave souls who take on the great Northern Irish weather every day — because no good story ever started with “So we just sat there and stayed perfectly quiet”.
A shout-out to the team
In our daily practice, we often laugh and say, “You never know what a day could bring.” And it’s true. While every member of our team holds countless childcare qualifications and core training certificates, the real magic isn’t on a CV.
It’s in the cuddles when Mummy and Daddy are at work.
It’s in the storytelling that sparks a giggle or a dream.
At Ladybird Lane, we don’t just care for children. We share their laughter, their learning and their love of adventure — helping know my family feel right at home.
