Could Care Be Your Calling?

Róisín Austin, managing director of Complete Homecare 24, shares why a career in care can be one of the most rewarding paths of all, and why the right team can make all the difference.
Behind every great care service is a team of compassionate people making a real difference every single day.
At Complete Homecare 24, that team is at the heart of everything we do. From supporting families at home to helping service users feel safe and valued, the work is built on kindness and trust.
For anyone considering a role in care, managing director Róisín Austin says there are more opportunities than people might think — and that you do not need years of experience to take that first step.
What opportunities are currently available at Complete Homecare 24?
We offer a wide range of opportunities to work with us, including roles in domiciliary care, 24/7 care teams, day sitting services and night sitting teams. There are also positions available in leadership, recruitment and coordination.
What kind of person makes a wonderful carer?
A carer is not defined just by qualifications. It is really about the kind of person they are, how they make others feel, and their ability to adapt or go the extra mile for the people they look after.
Compassion, patience, reliability and a genuine desire to help others all make a huge difference in this role.
Can someone apply even if they’ve never worked in care before?
Yes, absolutely. We provide complete training in all aspects of the role, so no previous care experience is needed.
All of our training is delivered in-house, ensuring new team members are fully prepared for the tasks they will be carrying out. We support our staff throughout the entire training process and continue that support as they grow in their role, so they never feel like they are on their own.
How do you support and train new team members?
We support and train new team members through a combination of full in-house training, shadowing, and pairing them with experienced carers and team leaders to help build confidence and hands-on experience.
Throughout the process, we carry out regular check-ins to make sure everyone is settling in and feeling supported.
We also have an open-door policy in the office, so carers can come in at any time to talk through any challenges they may be facing. This allows us to adjust and improve their experience, while making sure they always have the guidance and support they need to succeed.
What do people love most about working in care?
People love working in care because every day feels meaningful.
You get to make a real difference in someone’s life, build strong relationships, and see the impact of your support first-hand. Many people enjoy the variety too, because no two days are the same.
There is also a real sense of teamwork within the care team, and that means a lot. It is incredibly rewarding to know that the kindness and compassion you show can brighten someone’s day and help them feel safe, supported and valued.
What would you say to someone thinking about joining your team?
If you are a caring person who wants to make a difference and feel rewarded in your work, then give it a go.
We work closely with professional bodies and encourage carers to undertake professional qualifications through us, so it can be a great first step into a long-term career in care.
For the right person, this is not just a job. It is a chance to be part of something meaningful and to build a career where what you do every day truly matters.
