Built on Beauty and Belief

Karla and Louise, the women behind Serendipity Academy, share how their passion for education and creativity inspired them to create a supportive space where future beauty professionals can thrive.
Who are the women behind Serendipity Academy, and what inspired you to open your doors?
Serendipity Academy was founded by two women with one shared vision. We wanted to elevate beauty education in Northern Ireland and empower the next generation of beauty professionals.
At the heart of the academy are Karla and Louise, co-founders whose strengths work hand in hand. Karla is our lead nail educator, bringing years of hands-on experience in nail technology, a passion for high standards and a real gift for teaching. Louise brings beauty industry experience, along with creativity and leadership. She helps shape the academy’s direction, making sure every course and student experience reflects the values we believe in.
What inspired us was a simple belief: people deserve access to training that is supportive, high quality and genuinely career-changing. We could see that many aspiring beauty professionals were eager to learn but often lacked the guidance and real-world preparation they needed to succeed.
For us, opening Serendipity Academy wasn’t just a business decision. It was a chance to give something back to an industry we love and create a community where people are encouraged to grow.
Karla, what led you into beauty education?
My career in the beauty and nail industry began with a love for creativity, precision and helping people feel their best. I trained extensively in nail technology and beauty therapy, gaining qualifications across gel systems, BIAB, acrylic enhancements, nail art, hygiene and client care.
As I built my career, I kept upskilling and refining advanced techniques. Over time, I realised my favourite part of the job wasn’t just creating beautiful nails, it was teaching others how to do it.
Students would come to me for guidance, and I naturally stepped into a mentoring role. I loved seeing their confidence grow and watching them realise they could turn their skills into a real career. Founding Serendipity Academy allowed me to combine everything I value in one place.
Louise, what has your own journey been like?
For as long as I can remember, my passion has been to help others feel their best. Initially, I pursued a career in the beauty industry, where I focused on enhancing appearances. However, as I gained experience, I came to a realisation: true wellness and beauty stem from within.
This insight led me to transition from beauty to becoming an award-winning massage therapist. Through my work, I discovered the incredible power of touch and the importance of addressing not just the physical body but also the emotional and spiritual aspects of healing. Each massage became an opportunity to connect with clients on a deeper level, guiding them towards relaxation, relief and rejuvenation.
As I continued my journey, I felt a calling to share this knowledge and passion with others. I aspire to become a teacher of holistic healing, empowering individuals to embrace their own healing journeys. I believe that by nurturing our inner selves, we can unlock our fullest potential and achieve lasting wellness.
I’m excited to connect with fellow wellness enthusiasts and create a community dedicated to holistic health. Together, let’s explore the transformative power of healing from within!
What kind of learning environment did you want to create for students?
From the very beginning, we wanted Serendipity Academy to feel different. Not just a place to learn skills, but somewhere students feel supported and genuinely valued.
The beauty industry can feel intimidating, especially for beginners, so creating the right environment was incredibly important to us. We wanted students to walk through the door and instantly feel at ease, with no judgement or pressure, just encouragement and patience.
Our classes are practical, hands-on and engaging because beauty is a creative industry, and learning should feel exciting. Questions are always welcome, mistakes are part of the process, and growth is something we celebrate.
While the atmosphere is warm and relaxed, our standards are high. We want students to understand not just how to perform a technique, but why it matters, so they leave feeling knowledgeable and industry-ready.
Looking ahead, what opportunities do you hope Serendipity Academy will create?
Our vision goes far beyond teaching techniques. We want Serendipity Academy to open doors for women and men who want to build meaningful, flexible careers in beauty and wellness.
We hope our students will go on to start their own businesses, build strong careers and discover a real sense of independence. Above all, we want Serendipity Academy to be a place where people realise their potential and step into a future that feels rewarding and truly their own.
