Mama Placenta Remedies

Supporting You After Birth

Staci, founder of Mama Placenta Remedies, answers the most common questions about placenta encapsulation and how it can support recovery after birth.

What exactly is placenta encapsulation?

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing a mother’s placenta after birth, gently dehydrating it and placing it into capsules. These capsules can then be taken in the postpartum period as a natural way to support recovery. Many mums choose this to help with energy levels, mood balance and overall healing after birth.

At what stage of pregnancy should women start thinking about placenta remedies?

I think it’s really important to begin thinking about placenta remedies from the first trimester, especially if it’s something you feel drawn to, as I only take a limited number of clients each month.

That said, most mums tend to start looking into it during their second or third trimester, which still gives them time to ask questions, feel comfortable and make an informed decision before baby arrives. If a mum knows this is something she would like, I would always gently advise booking as early as possible, as spaces can fill quickly. Booking early also allows mums to take advantage of the payment plan option, helping to spread the cost in the lead-up to birth.

If a mum decides to go ahead, how does the process work from birth to delivery of the finished remedies?

Around four weeks before her due date, I send each mum a cooler box kit with everything needed to bring to the hospital, along with clear, simple instructions.

Once baby arrives, the birthing partner contacts me to let me know the placenta is ready. I then arrange for my trusted courier to collect it promptly and bring it safely back to me.

From there, I begin the preparation process in a clean, controlled environment. I always aim to work as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest standards of care. Depending on timing, remedies are usually returned to mum within 2 to 5 days, ready to support her in those early postpartum days.

What products or options do you offer beyond capsules?

Alongside capsules, I offer a range of additional remedies and keepsakes that allow mums to choose what feels right for them. These include a placenta tincture, which can be kept long-term and used months or even years later, a gentle placenta essence for both mum and baby, and a placenta-infused cosmetic oil designed to support skin healing. I also create meaningful keepsakes such as framed umbilical cord shapes and “tree of life” placenta prints.

I also have a few exciting new products currently in development, which will be launching over the coming months.

For me, this work is about so much more than preparing capsules or delivering a package. It’s about supporting a mother through one of the most important transitions of her life. I offer ongoing, continuous support throughout the postpartum period, whether that’s answering questions, offering reassurance or simply being there at the end of a message when a mum needs it most. I want every mum to feel held, supported and never alone in those early days.

How do you make sure every placenta remedy is prepared safely and professionally?

Safety is always my top priority. I’ve built a stand-alone placenta lab and I follow strict hygiene and handling procedures in line with Environmental Health guidance. Every placenta is handled individually, using sanitised equipment and a clean preparation space. From collection right through to delivery, everything is done with care, respect and professionalism to ensure mums feel completely confident and reassured.

What would you say to a mum who is curious but still feels unsure about the idea?

I would always say that feeling unsure is completely normal, especially if it’s something you’ve never come across before.

I gently encourage mums to reach out to me with any questions they have. I’m always happy to talk things through and provide clear, honest information so they can make the decision that feels right for them. I also have research and helpful information available on my website for those who like to explore things in their own time.

Many mums also find comfort in reading reviews and hearing real experiences from other women who have chosen placenta remedies. It can really help to see how others felt before and after, and to know they’re not alone in their curiosity.

There’s never any pressure, just support, guidance and space to decide what feels best for you.
