Why Choosing the Right Practitioner Matters

OS Aesthetics founder Orlagh Stevenson explains why trust, safety and experience should always come before trends when it comes to aesthetic treatments.

Last month, I talked about moving beyond the basics and why you might consider levelling up your routine with professional treatments. But once you decide to take that step, the next question quickly becomes the most important one of all: who do you trust with your face?

In an industry full of social media filters, trends and tempting “deals”, finding the right practitioner is about far more than price. For me, it is about finding a qualified medical professional who prioritises your safety and natural anatomy over financial gain.

Medical Credentials Matter

One of the first things I always encourage people to look for is proper medical training and qualifications.

A qualified healthcare professional such as a doctor, nurse or dentist will have a detailed understanding of facial anatomy, patient safety and how to manage complications if they arise.

Aesthetic treatments are still medical procedures, and that should never be overlooked.

A Consultation Should Never Feel Rushed

I firmly believe a good practitioner spends more time listening than injecting.

A proper consultation should involve discussing your medical history, understanding your concerns and managing expectations honestly. Most importantly, your practitioner should feel comfortable saying “no” if a treatment is not right for you.

That honesty is often one of the clearest signs that somebody genuinely prioritises patient care.

Look for Natural Results

I always encourage people to study a practitioner’s previous work carefully.

Do the results look natural? Do the patients simply look refreshed and well rested, or does the treatment itself become the focus?

For me, aesthetics should never be about changing someone completely. The best results are subtle, balanced and tailored to the individual.

I never see a face as a collection of separate lines to fill or fix. Every face needs to be assessed as a whole, respecting natural anatomy and creating harmony rather than chasing trends.

Trust Is Everything

When you find the right practitioner, the results are not just about appearance. You feel more confident because you know you are in safe, experienced hands.

As the aesthetics industry continues to grow rapidly, I believe it is more important than ever for people to research carefully, ask questions and choose practitioners based on experience, qualifications and trust rather than special offers or social media trends.

Because when it comes to your face, safety should always come first.

Next month, I’ll be talking about summer skin and how to protect your glow while still enjoying the sunshine.
