Care, On Your Terms

Roisin Austin shares how Complete Homecare 24 is giving families across Northern Ireland the support they need to keep loved ones at home.

For many families, the word “care” can feel overwhelming.

Often the need for care arrives at a time of sudden illness or diagnosis. Sometimes it is just the realisation that a loved one needs more support than they once did.

In those moments, decisions are tough as emotions run high. But the instinct is simple – most people want to stay at home.

This sits at the heart of Complete Homecare 24.

A Personal Approach to Home Care

Founded by Roisin Austin, the family-run home care company provides tailored care packages designed to support people in the comfort of their own homes.

From companionship and enabling support through to dementia and palliative care, the focus is always on maintaining independence and preserving dignity.

Roisin’s journey into home care was not something she initially set out to do.

“I was working in the private sector for years, and private care came my way before Covid,” she explains. “During Covid I created a small team to help in the community and built a reputation with local health and social care workers.”

What began as community support quickly developed into something more structured.

In 2021, while pregnant, Roisin began writing the policies and procedures required to apply for registration with the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority. With support from her brother, she formed the business model and in January 2022 Complete Homecare 24 officially received its registration.

They have not looked back.

Support When Families Need It Most

Today, the company offers what Roisin describes as “all round support” for individuals and families navigating changing circumstances.

“We have great relationships with families who are very comfortable ringing us with issues that arise,” she says. “We have an open door policy where service users and families can pop in any time, and many do, even just to meet the team behind the scenes.”

That accessibility is intentional. Care, particularly when it begins unexpectedly, can feel clinical or impersonal. Roisin wanted something different.

“Our carers deliver the care and often provide support to families who may feel overwhelmed with sudden illness,” she says. “Compassionate and understanding carers give the reassurance people need while trying to care for a loved one at home.”

Tailored Care Packages

Complete Homecare 24 provides a wide spectrum of services. These include personal care, companionship, enabling support, transport assistance, scheduled care calls, overnight support and specialist 24-hour care.

It is an area in which the company has particular experience.

Each care package is tailored individually.

“We contact them and get preferred times, calls and tasks. We build a person centred care plan and involve them in how they wish to be cared for,” Roisin explains.

This emphasis on control and collaboration is central to the business. Clients and their families decide what support looks like. The goal is not to take over, but to enable.

Training, Compassion and Experience

For those facing more complex needs such as dementia or palliative care, Roisin says her team’s training and experience are something she is deeply proud of.

“We are very proud of our carers and the feedback we get from families at their most vulnerable points. Our carers are trained twice a year and ongoing training is provided to ensure they are prepared for any circumstances.”

Ultimately, Roisin believes home care offers something that residential care, while appropriate for some, cannot always replicate.

“Everyone wants to be at home,” she says simply.

While residential care may suit some people, many have built a home life that is the only place they want to be.

Helping Families Through Uncertain Times

For families considering home care for the first time, the uncertainty can be paralysing.

Roisin’s advice is straightforward.

“I would advise them not to panic. It is your way of ensuring you maintain a healthy safe environment in your own home and you have earned it.”

Complete Homecare 24 is about reassurance.

They aim to meet people where they are and help individuals continue living life on their own terms, even when circumstances change.

And for many families, that makes all the difference.
