Ciara’s Journey to Creating Coco Lane

Introducing Local Women’s new columnist, Ciara Gartland Caulfield — the woman behind Armagh’s award-winning Coco Lane Beauty Spa & Day Clinic.

What inspired you to open Coco Lane Beauty Clinic & Day Spa?

I always aspired to open and run my own beauty salon, but I also wanted to bring something new to Armagh. That’s where the idea for the day spa came from. After working in the beauty industry for over 12 years, it felt like the right time to take the leap — and in 2013, I made the commitment and opened Coco Lane.

How did your journey in beauty and spa therapy begin?

I’ve been passionate about beauty from a very young age. My mum was a big inspiration and encouraged me to follow my interest. During my GNVQ in Business Studies, I took a work placement in a beauty salon in County Kildare, which completely confirmed that this was the path for me. I went on to complete my HND in Beauty and Related Studies in Belfast and then moved to Guernsey to work in an Elemis spa for two years. That experience was incredible — I trained in London with Elemis and developed a real understanding of the luxury spa experience.

When I returned home, I worked in Portadown for 10 years before finally deciding to open my own business.

What makes Coco Lane special to you?

Coco Lane is truly unique. I’m proud that we offer something different, relaxing and memorable for every client. From the very first day, I wanted to create an atmosphere of comfort and luxury — somewhere people could switch off completely.

Our little touches, like complimentary tea, coffee, sorbet or prosecco, all add to that genuine spa experience. I’m so grateful to our loyal clients who have supported us from the start and continue to come back year after year.

Which treatments are client favourites right now?

Our new Japanese Head Spa has been a huge hit this year. We have two treatment beds, and it’s proving to be one of our most talked-about services. Of course, our traditional facials and massages remain incredibly popular, and our double pedicure chairs are always in demand.

Clients love the experience. Our spa packages, complete with hot tub, sauna and relaxation suite, are another favourite, especially for special occasions or a well-earned treat.

How would you describe the atmosphere at the spa?

Welcoming, comfortable and relaxing. The whole team is friendly, professional and genuinely cares about every client who walks through the door.

What’s next for Coco Lane in 2026?

2025 has been such a special year — we were honoured to win Beauty Clinic of the Year and Day Spa of the Year in Northern Ireland. It’s going to be hard to top that, but we’ll keep striving to stay ahead of evolving trends while maintaining the high standards that have earned us our reputation.

For me, success is simple — our clients leave Coco Lane happy and relaxed, and my team stays healthy and motivated. If that’s achieved, then it’s been a great year.
