Feeling Drained This December? You’re Not Alone

Perfect families. Perfect dinners. Perfect homes. Perfect everything.
But behind the scenes, many women are quietly running themselves into the ground.
If you already feel drained or overwhelmed this December, here is the truth you rarely hear:
You are not exhausted because you are failing.
You are exhausted because you are carrying too much.
The Christmas mental load is heavy. It is emotional. It is constant.
And for most women, it looks like this:
- remembering every present
- planning every meal
- managing every diary clash
- noticing every detail
- smoothing over every conflict
- anticipating everyone’s needs
- holding the atmosphere together
It is a huge weight to carry, and it falls on women far more often than men.
But the hardest part is not the list itself. It is the quiet belief underneath it:
“If I don’t do it all, I’m not enough.”
Not enough of a mum.
Not enough of a partner.
Not enough of a daughter or host.
Not enough of a woman.
No wonder December feels overwhelming.
The truth is simple.
The mental load is not a sign of weakness. It is the mark of a woman who cares deeply, gives generously and tries her hardest, even when she is running on empty.
But here is a reminder you may need this year:
Your worth has never depended on how much you do.
It rests in how kindly you treat yourself while you are doing it.
As a hypnotherapist and coach, I see so many women at this time of year battling anxiety, guilt and overload. Not because they lack strength, but because they have been strong for too long without support or rest.
Here are three small shifts that can ease the pressure:
1. Swap “I should” for “What do I need?”
Pause before saying yes. Ask yourself what matters and what doesn’t.
You are allowed to choose what is manageable.
2. Ask for help.
It is an act of self-worth, not failure.
You do not have to be the one holding everything together.
Delegating honours your value.
3. Put yourself on your own Christmas list.
Whether it is rest, therapy, coaching, time to breathe or simply permission to slow down, give yourself something nurturing.
If you are reading this and thinking, “That is me,” please know you do not have to carry it all alone.
Through hypnotherapy and coaching, I help women calm their nervous systems, rebuild confidence and feel more grounded and in control. Not just at Christmas, but all year round.
You deserve to feel as valued as you make everyone else feel.
And if you are ready to reclaim that sense of self, I am here to support you.
