Forever Young Confidence

Award-winning semi-permanent makeup artist Emma Jardine shares how subtle, natural enhancements can transform confidence and help women feel like the very best version of themselves, every day.

Founder of Forever Young Semi-Permanent Makeup

Emma Jardine’s journey into semi-permanent makeup began almost 20 years ago, at just 21, while working in a beauty salon. With fair hair and naturally soft features, Emma had always relied on makeup to feel confident, so when she was first introduced to semi-permanent makeup, she was instantly intrigued.

Everything changed when one of the early pioneers of the treatment in Northern Ireland visited the salon from London. Emma booked in for her own eyeliner treatment with industry expert Kelly Forshaw, and in that moment, she knew she had found her calling. That first appointment sparked not only a friendship, but a career. Kelly, a leading trainer with Finishing Touches, the UK’s top training and product supplier for cosmetic and medical tattooing, took Emma under her wing.

Emma went on to train extensively and spent seven years travelling between Ireland and London, working in clinics across the south of England, Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.

She also supported Finishing Touches at head office, assisting with training workshops, webinars and industry conferences, gaining exceptional experience and refining her techniques to the highest level.

After years of travelling, Emma returned home to focus on building her own clinics across Northern Ireland under the name Forever Young. Later, when she wanted more flexibility while raising her children, she created a beautiful, private treatment space at home in Banbridge, a much-loved “she-shed” turned professional studio.

Today, clients travel from all over, including Belfast, Enniskillen, Bangor and even as far as Kildare, for Emma’s signature natural enhancements and meticulous attention to detail. Much of her business comes through word of mouth, with new clients often saying they booked after admiring her work on friends.

In 2025, Emma was proudly awarded Best Semi-Permanent Makeup Salon at the Northern Ireland Beauty Industry Awards, a milestone moment in a career built on nearly two decades of dedication.

Still as passionate as ever, Emma believes semi-permanent makeup is about far more than beauty. It is about confidence, empowerment and helping women feel like the very best version of themselves.

A self-confessed perfectionist, she takes her time with every client to ensure bespoke results that are soft, flattering and beautifully natural.

Q&A with Emma

What is semi-permanent makeup in simple terms, and who is it most suitable for?

Semi-permanent makeup is a cosmetic form of tattooing that enhances your natural features by gently implanting pigment into the top layer of the skin using super-fine micro needles. It creates the look of perfectly applied makeup, whether that is fuller brows, softly defined eyes or beautifully tinted lips.

I truly believe it is suitable for everybody because the results are so subtle and natural. It is especially popular with busy women, mums, professionals, those experiencing hair loss, and mature clients whose features have softened over time. It is for anyone who wants to wake up feeling polished and confident without the daily hassle of applying makeup.

How did you come to work in this field, and what drew you to it?

I have always been passionate about beauty and how it makes someone feel on the inside, not just how they look on the outside. Semi-permanent makeup gave me such a boost in confidence, and I loved how personal and transformative it felt.

Now I get to pass that feeling on to others. Seeing clients come back glowing, telling me they are getting compliments everywhere they go and saying it is the best thing they have ever done is incredibly rewarding. I hear “I wish I’d done this sooner” all the time. It is more than makeup. It is about helping women look and feel like the best version of themselves, all day, every day.

What are the most popular treatments you carry out?

Brows are by far the most requested treatment because they make such a transformation. They frame the face and can completely change someone’s look, whether they have over-plucked in the past, have thinning hair or just want a more defined shape.

Once clients have their brows done, many then progress to lip blush, which is growing in popularity for adding natural colour and definition and even making the lips appear slightly fuller without the need for filler.

To finish the look, eyeliner gives a very subtle, neat line right at the base of the lashes. It makes lashes look fuller and darker and really enhances the eyes.

What are the main reasons women come to you for brows, lips or eyeliner?

Most women come to me because they are tired of spending time every day trying to get their makeup even, especially brows, which can be tricky. Others have lost definition due to ageing, hair loss or medical reasons.

Many clients tell me they want to feel confident without makeup at the gym, on holiday or first thing in the morning. Semi-permanent makeup gives them that fresh, put-together look all the time.

How do you make sure every result looks natural and suits the individual?

No two faces are the same, so every treatment starts with a thorough consultation. I take time to understand my client’s lifestyle, preferences and how they normally wear their makeup.

I carefully map out shapes, choose colours that suit their skin tone and always aim for soft, natural enhancements that complement their features rather than overpower them. My goal is for people to say, “You look amazing,” not, “You’ve had work done.”

What is the treatment actually like for clients? Is there much downtime?

Clients are often pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the treatment is. I aim to make it a relaxing experience and like to think of it as an eyebrow facial. We can chat throughout, and some clients even fall asleep.

Afterwards, there may be slight redness and the colour will appear a little stronger at first, but it softens as it heals within about a week. Downtime is minimal, and most clients go straight back to normal daily activities with just a few simple aftercare steps.

Lip blush can involve a few days of swelling, but it always heals beautifully and naturally within the first week. In all areas, you usually lose around half of the initial colour, which is why treatments are darker at the beginning.

What difference do you see this treatment make to women’s confidence?

The confidence boost is honestly the most beautiful part of my job. Clients tell me they feel more put together, more youthful and more comfortable in their own skin, even without a scrap of makeup on.

For some, it is about convenience. For others, it is about restoring features they feel they have lost over time. Either way, seeing someone leave feeling happier and more confident than when they walked in is exactly why I love what I do.
