IN MEMORY OF OUR ESTEEMED FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE JIM GRACEY

We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Jim Gracey.
Jim was the editor of Local Women Sport and, quite simply, it would not have become what it is without him. When we launched the platform, we knew we needed someone with the expertise to bring our vision to life. From the moment Jim joined us, he made Local Women Sport his own.
A former Sports Editor of the Belfast Telegraph, Jim brought a lifetime of experience and an unrivalled understanding of sport. He started with no audience or established platform, but through hard work and talent he built Local Women Sport into the only dedicated website celebrating women’s sport across Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland.
His leadership was invaluable. He opened doors and earned the trust of athletes and sporting organisations. Through his work, countless women and girls received the recognition they deserved, and Local Women is a better organisation because of everything he gave to it.
Jim was also a truly gifted writer. He had that rare ability to tell a story with warmth and insight, making every piece a pleasure to read. His journalism reflected the respect he had for the people whose stories he told, and his passion for sport shone through every word.
To us, though, Jim was much more than a brilliant journalist. He was a wonderful colleague and a treasured friend. He fitted effortlessly into the Local Women family, bringing calm and good humour to every day. If there was ever a disagreement, Jim was the one who brought people back together. He loved a laugh and was always great company.
Many of our readers will know the wonderful restaurant reviews Jim and his beloved wife, Paula, share with us each month. They became a much-loved part of Local Women, and spending time with Jim and Paula was always a joy.
Jim’s influence on Local Women cannot be overstated. His leadership and friendship helped shape who we are today, and his legacy will continue to inspire us for many years to come.
We are devastated by his loss and know he will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with him or calling him a friend.
Our love and deepest condolences go to Paula, Jim’s family and everyone who knew and loved him.
Thank you, Jim, for believing in Local Women Sport and for everything you gave to all of us.
We will miss your laughter and your friendship more than words can say.
You will always be part of the Local Women family.
