Christmas time means mistletoe, mulled wine, and—let’s be honest—a little wine inspiration! If you’re hosting this season or just fancy stocking up for some festive cheer, I’ve got some brilliant picks to help you toast in style.
A Festive Tasting Adventure
This year, I joined the wonderful team at JN Wines for their eagerly anticipated Annual Seasonal Selection launch. It was a fabulous event, filled with laughter, wine tasting, and expert insights. The setup was simple yet special—tables lined with wines from all over the world, just waiting to be sampled.
If you haven’t attended one before, I highly recommend it. You not only get to taste a wide variety of wines, but also speak directly to the producers and get exclusive discounts on orders.
Paula’s Picks for Christmas Dinner and Parties
Let’s start with the Light Whites. If you’re looking for a friendly, party-pleasing option, try Bodegas Piqueras El Picoteo Blanco 2023 (£11.50). It’s an organic Spanish blend of Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc—zesty, crisp, and perfect with salads, rice, grilled fish, and even party snacks.
With seafood or a classic starter, I recommend Herdade Do Sobroso Rio Dos Patos Branco 2023 (£13.95). Hailing from Portugal, this wine is fresh, clean, and beautifully balanced—ideal with prawns and smoked salmon.
Love red? Pair your Christmas mains with Vina Casablanca Cefiro Pinot Noir 2020 (£11.95) from Chile, or Les Hauts de Pepys Pinot Noir 2023 from France (£14.99). The latter brings dark fruit, spice, and a generous splash of festive flavour.
Something Sparkly to Celebrate
No Christmas is complete without a touch of fizz! JN Wines’ own Sparkling Rose NV and Sparkling NV are both excellent value at £13 and £14. These are ideal for canapés, party platters, or a toast before dinner.
And to finish? You’ll want something sweet and rich to go with dessert. I suggest:
- Sartarelli Passito 2020 (£24.50) from Italy – velvety and indulgent.
- Boscarelli, Malvasia di Candia Aromatica 2021 or Pierso Vin Santo DOC 2013 (£38.95) – both are beautiful sips to close out your meal.
