I love travelling, and I love the sun, so you won’t be surprised to hear that I have more than one pair of sunglasses! The perks of the job!
I’ve divided this column into some fashion advice, some options to consider when looking at sunglasses, and the most important but often overlooked, the genuine health benefits from wearing sunglasses.

YOUR STYLE

Think about what you want your glasses to say! Would you like a colourful frame, a dark frame, a brand along the side like Gucci or something finer and understated?

The larger round classic frames inspired by Audrey Hepburn are timeless, as is the Rayban Aviator style, then there are newer more modern hexagonal shapes from Chloe which add definition and can be striking.
It’s rare to have one style for all occasions, but when chosen carefully one pair can do a lot, so consider, are these for out walking, holidays or sports?

SIZE MATTERS

Size matters girls! If they are too big, they will slide off. If they are too small, they will hurt your head. Get the fit correct. Sunglasses need to cover your eyes and skin, and they need to be fitted correctly. A simple adjustment behind the ears or along the front can make all the difference.

WHY WEAR SUNGLASSES?

Of course, sunglasses are associated with style and fun. The sun is out, and the summer is here, but also consider how your eyes could thank you in later years. Just like you apply sunscreen to protect the skin, sunglasses protect your eyes from UV light.

This has links to cataract formation, skin cancers, and changes at the back of your eyes.

Also, sunglasses are not just for Thailand in July, they should be used all year round. Low sun while driving or a winter’s day when the UV level is 3 or above – get the sunglasses on!

We would love to help you choose from our wide selection of sunglasses and if there is a man in your life, make sure they are protecting their eyes too. They will thank you for it later in life.
