Spring Into a New Look

This month, Michelle from John Laverty Optometrists in Ballymoney shares how the team are transforming what can feel like a frustrating task into an enjoyable, confidence-boosting experience.
Celebrating the Women Behind the Practice
Behind every great business are the women who help it thrive, and our practice is no different.
Over the coming months you’ll meet some of the brilliant female members of our team as they share a little about themselves and the topics they are most passionate about.
We hope you enjoy the read.
As always, this column is a two-way conversation, so please feel free to get in touch in practice, through social media, or by emailing us at info@johnlaverty.co.uk.
Thanks,
Brian McKeown, Optometrist
Finding the Right Frames
The most common thing we hear is that someone doesn’t know where to start when looking for new frames. Others can feel overwhelmed, and that is where we come in.
We start at the beginning by chatting about what the glasses will be used for and what you want from a new frame.
Some people want colour, a new style, or something practical for reading. Others may need sunglasses for holidays or everyday wear.
Understanding how you plan to use your glasses helps guide the choice.
Styling
This is where we excel. I enjoy finding the motivation behind someone wanting new glasses and presenting styles they might never normally consider.
Take Roxanna, for example. She loves her frames and wanted a different look for different occasions.
There are not many things you wear as often as your glasses, and one pair doesn’t cover every outfit or occasion.
(And don’t get me started on the number of shoes I have!)
Some styles Roxanna tried included:
- Etnia Barcelona – slightly upswept and sophisticated
- Guess – transparent acetate, stylish and fun
- Top Banna – a hexagonal shape with texture and colour

Lenses
We have seen a recent boost in transition lenses, which are lenses that change in sunlight.
The colour of the transition lens can complement the frame really well. They also offer full UV protection and a blue-light filter for digital screen work.
In a previous article we talked about lens treatments that help protect the eyes.
For example, Crizal Drive reduces glare from headlights, while Prevencia is an anti-glare lens used specifically for computer users.
Any recommendation we make links directly to how you intend to use your glasses.
Frames
Every month we update our stock and are always on the lookout for exciting brands and new styles.
That’s why we attend trade shows around Europe to see upcoming trends.
We have recently placed an order for new Anne et Valentin frames from Toulouse, which we’re very excited about.
It’s a niche brand that cannot be found in many practices in the UK, and they are a striking frame.
Pair Up
Roxanna used our “Take 3” offer, which discounts second and third pairs of glasses to make it more cost-effective.
We also have an interest-free payment plan that allows you to spread the cost over 3 or 6 months.
If you would like a styling appointment or simply want to explore some new frames, give us a call.
