Feeling Like You Again

Aesthetic nurse prescriber Tanya Khan explains how perimenopause can change the face, and how one client’s words, “I felt truly heard, understood and seen”, reflect the kind of support women experience in her clinic.

Perimenopause can arrive quietly, then suddenly feel almost impossible to ignore.

For aesthetic nurse prescriber and clinic owner Tanya Khan, it came at a time when she expected to feel nothing but joy. At 44, she had just welcomed a baby through IVF and was in one of the happiest chapters of her life. But alongside that came symptoms she knew were not simply down to broken sleep or busy days.

“I had night sweats, disrupted sleep, joint pain and a level of exhaustion that felt very different,” she says. “What surprised me most was the emotional shift. I was happy, but I didn’t quite feel like myself.”

That feeling is something she now hears from women every day.

One client recently described her experience:

“I felt truly heard, understood and seen. Not just as a client, but as a woman navigating something that can feel so confusing and isolating.

Speaking so openly made me realise just how lost I’ve felt at times, and how powerful it is to have another woman validate that. No judgement. No brushing it off. Just real, honest understanding.

We spoke about HRT, the stigma, the silence, and why that needs to change. Women deserve better. We deserve to be listened to, supported and given real guidance.

Menopause is not an age. It’s not a choice. It’s a journey so many of us are walking quietly.”

For Tanya, that is exactly what sits at the heart of her work.

More Than Just Visible Ageing

As an experienced aesthetic practitioner, Tanya has always understood that facial ageing is never just about lines. Her approach has consistently focused on skin quality, facial structure and treatments that enhance rather than alter.

But going through perimenopause herself deepened that understanding.

“This stage is not just about what you see in the mirror,” she says. “It’s how you feel. The lack of sleep, the brain fog, the drop in confidence. It can leave women feeling unlike themselves in a way that’s hard to explain.”

Why the Face Can Change So Quickly

One of the most common things Tanya hears from women in their forties is that they feel they have “aged overnight”.

There is a reason for that.

As hormone levels fluctuate and oestrogen declines, collagen production slows. The skin can lose firmness, glow and elasticity, and the face can begin to look softer or more tired.

Women often notice:

Reduced skin firmness
A softer jawline
Changes in skin texture
Dullness or loss of radiance
A more tired overall appearance

“These are real changes, and they can feel unsettling,” Tanya says. “It’s rarely about wanting to look younger. It’s about wanting to look fresher and more like yourself again.”

A More Thoughtful Approach to Facial Aesthetics

For Tanya, that is where a more considered approach to aesthetics comes in.

Rather than chasing lines or creating dramatic change, her focus is on subtle, targeted treatments that support the face as it changes through midlife.

That might include restoring soft volume loss, improving skin quality, stimulating collagen or refining areas where definition has been lost.

“The aim is never to make someone look different,” she says. “It’s to work with the face and create results that feel natural and in keeping with who they are.”

When treatments are planned carefully, the change is often subtle but meaningful.

“Women will say they look fresher, more rested, or more like themselves again,” she says. “That’s always the goal.”

Not a Choice, But Something We All Face

Menopause is not a choice. It is something every woman will go through.

Yet many still feel they have to navigate it quietly, without clear guidance or support.

“There’s still a lot of stigma around it,” Tanya says. “Women are often left to figure it out alone, and that shouldn’t be the case.”

Looking Like Yourself Again

For Tanya, facial aesthetics in midlife is not about chasing youth. It is about helping women feel more like themselves again at a time when that can feel difficult.

When approached properly, subtle treatments can restore balance, improve skin quality and soften the signs of fatigue in a way that feels natural and believable.

If you have started to notice changes in your face during perimenopause and feel your confidence has shifted, her advice is simple.

Do not try to figure it out alone.

Because at this stage of life, it is not just about how you look.

It is about how you feel, and knowing there is someone who understands that.
