You Don’t Need to Wait Until You’re ‘Ready’

We’ve all heard it: “Just wait for the frying pan moment.” That moment when life nudges (or shoves) us out of our comfort zone and finally forces us to show up, speak up, and be seen. But what if that moment never comes? Or what if it’s not actually the universe’s job to decide when you’re ready—but yours?
Let’s dig into why we wait, and more importantly, why we don’t have to.
The Inner Critic and That Familiar Voice
Often, we believe our own doubts more than we trust our own desires. We think we need permission. That we must earn the right to be visible. And when someone finally asks, “Why haven’t you done this yet?” we shrug, make a joke, and wait for some cosmic permission slip.
But here’s the truth: That hesitation? That doubt? It’s not real. It’s learned.
Three Things You’ll Need Before You Hit “Go”
1. A Spark That You Don’t Ignore
I remember sitting at the hairdresser’s, overwhelmed with energy after a recent coaching session. Someone had dared me to think about writing a book. A few hours later, I’d mapped out an idea and scribbled 1,500 words. That fire didn’t come from outside—it came from within. It reminded me who I am.
2. The Fire of “Have You Met Me?”
Sometimes, all it takes is for someone to underestimate you. A well-meaning boss once suggested I wasn’t ready to write a chapter in a book project. That comment lit a fire under me—and in a matter of days, I’d written 15,000 words.
When we think we need validation or permission, we wait. But when we realise we’re already enough, we move.
3. The Courage to Say It Out Loud
I once told someone I was going to write a book, and he simply said, “I don’t think you’re ready.” That stung. But it became a turning point. It helped me realise that the only permission I needed was my own.
We wait for the perfect moment to speak up. But the moment you feel ready to speak your truth is the moment to start—not because someone else thinks you’ve earned it.
Ask Yourself This
When you find yourself hesitating, journal on this:
- What have I been quietly wanting to do, but telling myself I’m not ready for?
- Whose voice am I still waiting for validation from?
- What would I do this moment if I fully owned how ready I actually am?
The Bottom Line
You don’t need a frying pan moment to claim your brilliance.
You’re ready right now—and that’s enough.
So go ahead:
- Send the email
- Pitch the idea
- Launch the project
- Write the first page
You don’t need to wait until you feel “ready.”
You just need to decide.
