Making Time to Listen Because Menopause Matters

This Menopause Awareness Month, Dr Karen Kiernan of Duality Healthcare says no woman should feel unheard or left to cope alone. At Duality, the focus is on care that sees the whole woman – not just the symptoms.

Why This Month Matters

October marks Menopause Awareness Month – a chance to bring into the spotlight a subject that touches the lives of every woman, yet has too often been brushed aside. While attitudes are changing, many women still feel not listened to, unheard, or dismissed when it comes to their health at this stage of life.

At Duality Healthcare, all women are welcome to know: we have time for you. Time to listen, time to talk through your symptoms, and time to support you in finding the right solutions.

Menopause is a natural transition, usually between the ages of 45 and 55, though symptoms can begin earlier in perimenopause. For some, it’s a smooth passage. For others, it brings a cascade of changes – hot flushes, night sweats, mood shifts, memory lapses, joint aches, and sleep disturbance to name just a few.

Beyond the day-to-day challenges, there are longer-term considerations for heart and bone health. Despite this, too many women have grown used to being told to “just get on with it.” Awareness campaigns remind us that women should never feel they have to suffer in silence – effective help and treatments are available.

More Than Just Symptoms

Menopause is about more than biology. It can touch every part of life – from confidence at work, to intimacy, to family relationships. The brain fog that makes it hard to concentrate in meetings, the tiredness that leaves evenings feeling overwhelming, or the loss of sleep that chips away at energy and joy – all of these are real, valid experiences.

Acknowledging the whole picture matters. Every woman’s journey is unique, and there is no single solution that suits all. That’s why healthcare in this area works best when there is space for open, honest conversation.

Creating That Space at Duality

One of the most common things women tell us after a consultation is how much better they feel simply from being heard. At Duality, we make it our priority to create that space.

Whether it’s talking through treatment options like HRT, exploring lifestyle changes, or considering non-hormonal approaches, we take the time to look at the full picture of your health and wellbeing.

Our approach is about you – your symptoms, your history, your lifestyle and preferences. We believe that feeling supported and respected is just as important as the treatment plan itself.

Breaking the Silence Together

The menopause conversation has never been louder – thanks to campaigners, workplaces, and women themselves sharing their stories. But there’s still more to do, especially locally. Far too many women still feel isolated or unsure where to turn.

By talking more openly – in families, communities, and clinics – we give women the chance to connect, to share what’s happening, and remind them that they are not alone.

Moving Forward with Confidence

This Menopause Awareness Month, we want women across our community to feel empowered to seek help and start conversations.

If you’ve been putting off speaking to someone about your symptoms, or if past experiences left you feeling dismissed, know that things can be different.

At Duality Healthcare, our ethos is simple: we have time for you. We are here to listen, to support, and to walk alongside you as you navigate this stage of life. Menopause is not something you need to endure in silence – with the right guidance, it can be a chapter where you rediscover strength, vitality and confidence.
