What Women Really Want to Know About Aesthetic Treatments

Lisa Sloan, Aesthetic Nurse Prescriber at Simply Be Beautiful, answers the questions women ask most often in clinic and explains why subtle, personalised treatment will always matter more than trends.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is that most women have the same questions about aesthetic treatments — they just don’t always say them out loud. So here are some of the ones I hear every day in clinic…

Will I still look like myself?

If you don’t, something has gone wrong. My approach is all about enhancing, not changing. You should look fresher, more rested, like you’ve had a great holiday, not like a different person.

What age should I start?

There’s no magic number. It’s less about age and more about what’s happening in your skin. Some women want prevention in their 20s, while others start later, and both are completely fine.

What’s the most underrated treatment?

Skin treatments, every time. People often think they need filler, but if your skin quality isn’t there, nothing will sit right. Treatments that hydrate and stimulate collagen can give you that glow and subtle lift without looking obvious.

What’s the biggest mistake women make?

Following trends instead of choosing what actually suits their own face, and doing too much too quickly. Good skin health will always come first. That’s your foundation.

Is anti-wrinkle treatment the answer to everything?

No. Ageing isn’t just about lines, it’s about skin, structure and volume. That’s why I always treat the face as a whole, not just one area.

How do I avoid looking “done”?

Choose your practitioner carefully and don’t rush. You should feel listened to. And always remember, less is more. We can build gradually.

What gives the best natural glow?

Anything that improves skin quality. Peels, skin boosters and collagen-stimulating treatments can all make a huge difference. My personal favourite is Profhilo. They freshen everything up without anyone really knowing why you look so well.

Do treatments really boost confidence?

Absolutely. It’s not about vanity, it’s about how you feel. Sometimes a small tweak can make a big difference in how someone carries themselves.

What should clients know before starting?

It’s a journey, not a quick fix. The best results come from a plan, consistency and looking after your skin long-term.

Why do some people look amazing and others overdone?

Balance. Knowing what to do — and what not to do. Good aesthetic work should be subtle and tailored, never copied.

At the end of the day, it’s not about looking younger. It’s about looking well, feeling confident and still feeling like you when you look in the mirror.
